Press Statement on the Nomination of Michael Boren to be Under Secretary of USDA for Natural Resources & Environment: January 17, 2025
On Thursday, January 16th, President-elect Donald Trump announced his intention to nominate Michael Boren of Idaho to be Under Secretary of Agriculture for Natural Resources and Environment. FFRC Executive Director Bill Imbergamo issued the following statement on the nomination:
“We applaud President Trump’s selection of Michael Boren to be Under Secretary overseeing the Forest Service. In this role, Mr. Boren will help lead an overdue reform and revitalization of the Nation’s largest forest manager. As a resident of rural Idaho, Mr. Boren is all too aware of the challenges facing our National Forests, including declining forest health, loss of forest management capacity, and overstocked, fire-prone forests.”
“Congress has provided the Forest Service with numerous authorities and billions of dollars to help increase the levels of management, including timber harvest, on our National Forests. As an outdoor recreationist and hunter, Mr. Boren undoubtedly understands that timber harvest can not only reduce fire danger and protect communities, it can create better wildlife habitat.”
“We look forward to working with Mr. Boren as he takes overdue steps to reform this important agency. We urge the Senate to act swiftly to confirm him.”
